Synopsis

Pesticides are the major component of successful crop production, whereas insecticides possess the major share among the pesticides in India. Pesticide related problems like resurgence, resistance and residue are the major consequence due to indiscriminate use of pesticides irrespective of maintaining of dose, frequency of spray applied & safe waiting period. Our objective was to study the pesticide use pattern, their characterization and categorization, safe handling of pesticide followed and ultimately the pesticide related health hazards in coastal saline agroecological zone. Our present study shows that highest numbers of different technical insecticides were used in brinjal followed by chilli & tomato. Cucurbits are the least insecticide sprayed crop among the vegetables.
