Janie Wilson-Cook, digital artist and art historian, became intrigued by first-person shooter video games as the technology to create them arrived in the early 1990s. By combining art history and visual culture, Ms. Wilson-Cook delves into the influences and impetus for the young programmers of that time, without formalized instruction, to create a genre synthesizing virtual reality with gaming. She investigates the question: "Are video games a true form of art and worthy of formalized study?" Biographie de l'auteur

Janie Wilson-Cook graduated with a B.A. in Comprehensive Art with a minor in Media Studies from Illinois State University. After a career in video and graphic art she earned an M.A. in Art History: Postmodern Media/Visual Culture from Northern Illinois University. She is currently the manager of the NIU Visual Resource Center.
