Synopsis

In the work place where people are continuously anxious and uncertain, personnel are at the risk of “numbing out” to guard themselves. We see it in the black faces of clerks, the lack of passion by workers, and in the curiously impervious ways managers and employees treat each other. The very mechanism which allows a person to survive an emotionally painful environment also makes it difficult for them to respond sensitively and empathetically to others. This numbing process affects far more than the interpersonal realm of organizational performance. It affects all aspects of decision-making, innovation, and safety. Academic libraries, despite being at the exciting Centre of research and student development, is not immune to employee stress. In fact, academic librarians are all vulnerable to experiencing the effects of stress because of the nature of academia

Biographie de l'auteur

Lilian Mudoola was born in Jinja, Busoga Region. She is a practicing Information Scientist with more experience in Academic Libraries. She holds degree of Bachelor of Art with Education from Uganda Christian University and Master of Science in Information Science degree from Makerere University.
