Synopsis

The probability of recurrence of intense rainstorms of varying durations, which plays an important role in causing runoff, varies from locality to locality. While designing water control structures in soil conservation and drainage the first step is to determine the probable recurrence of storms of different intensities and so that the structures designed may have economical size. For this purpose, the engineers need the data providing recurrence interval of storms of various intensities and durations. Hydrologic frequency analysis is a technique for developing such data providing recurrence interval of storms of various intensities and durations. Present work deals with the development of rainfall intensity-duration-return period relationship and station nomographs for Dapoli. This station fall under, high rainfall zone of Maharahstra, for which such relationship is not yet available. The information or knowledge generated through this study will be of great use for many facets of soil and water conservation works.
