In the era of information technology, computer models/software packages are indispensable tools for water resources professional foe the design and optimization. The present study was undertaken to develop a user friendly software package for the planning and design of the rainwater harvesting system at AGFE Dept IIT Kharagpur. The developed software consists of three modules. Module-I was developed for the design of the roof water harvesting system at various building. It also consists of various choices for the user depending on the water, tank type and tank shape. Module-II facilitates the selection and design of various structures for the surface water harvesting. Module-III facilitates the design of roof water harvesting system for general place. The entire three modules were tested by using the actual design done for the system. The developed computer codes proved to be more efficient and reliable for the planning and design of the rainwater harvesting system. A detailed ‘Help’ menu is also providing in the software to facilitate through understanding of the theory and methodology adopted for the selection and design of the rainwater harvesting system.
