With the continuously growing wireless technologies, Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) have emerged as a popular area of research. One of the most important aspects of the communications process is the design of the routing protocols used to establish and maintain multi-hop routes to allow the communication of data between nodes. As the MANETs are dynamic in nature, designing protocols for these networks is a challenging process. Although establishing correct and efficient routes is an important design issue in MANETs, a more challenging goal is to provide energy efficient routes because mobile nodes’ operation time is the most critical limiting factor. This article proposes a new energy-aware routing protocol.
