Chinese global presence as an investor country has started growing rapidly after the introduction of the Go Global strategy in the beginning of the new millennium. However, China is still a latecomer investor with a high degree of State-Owned Enterprises and it seems that they are following a somewhat different strategy than other global investors. China invests mainly in developing countries with weaker institutions. This book has investigated the effects of institutions on Chinese investments in Africa and found that Chinese firms tend to invest in countries with the same level of rule of law, and that oil producing countries receives more investments when there is less corruption or when the rule of law is weak.
