Synopsis
A Socially committed writer documents the events of his times for posterity much more effectively than a historian does. A novelist plays a major role in bringing out effectively the changes in the society by reflecting upon contemporary socio-political-economic concerns in his narrative as story telling is an effective medium of communication. In the light of this observation, the works of Rohinton Mistry : A South Asian Diasporic writer of Indian origin are found to be authentic reflections of the contemporary socio-political-economic times. Mistry's Such a Long Journey, A Fine Balance and Family Matters have been studied in the light of violation of civil, political, social, minority, ethnic and women rights as reflected in their works.
