Community Water Resources Management is fast becoming an accepted concept in water and land based developments although a number of questions are usually raised concerning the appropriateness of CWRM as a driver for development. It is the belief that it can be a key driver of development if consideration is given to the various mechanisms, technologies and policy that are in place and how they facilitate CWRM. Based on the research so far the benefits of CWRM can be summed up as: • Communities’ own historical conflict resolution mechanisms to water issues are used. • Detailed indigenous and local knowledge is utilised. • Communities self monitor their water usage. • Effective community participation is achieved. • Water Management is cost effectively carried out at village level.
