9783659907388: Modelling and Simulation of Solar Steam Cooking System

Synopsis

Solar Steam Cooking System proposed for the hostel Gagangiri of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere (location 190 N, 720 E) has been modelled, analyzed thoroughly and simulation results are presented in this report. The system consists of an array of photovoltaic panels, microprocessor-based tracking mechanism, cylindrical parabolic collector, insulated oil storage container and insulated pipe. An assessment of Techno-Economic viability of such system is also discussed which includes the site selection for the installation of cylindrical parabolic concentrator, tracking method, energy storage and pay back period. Oil tank containing Therminol-55 and working as thermally stratified storage unit that receives heat from the sun through cylindrical parabolic concentrator, in turns, provide this thermal energy to a cooking system. Oil tank has been modelled and simulation results are presented. Explicit Finite Difference Method (EFDM) considering Fourier number less than 0.25 has been adopted for the temperature prediction in the storage unit.
