After the industrial revolution, Heavy metals became most popular topic due to bad consequences of heavy metal. There are many methods to remove heavy metal from waste water used in industry. Those are ion exchange, filtration methods, reverse osmosis and adsorption methods.Lead is a most harmful heavy metal contain in waste water and many industries works with lead. Considering those factors, we selected to remove lead from synthetic waste water by using jack-fruit leaves(Artocarpus heterophyllus). The study was conducted to find optimum condition for lead removal from waste water using jack-fruit leaves. Both unmodified and modified bio-sorbent were used to find which condition give the higher metal removal ability. Other parameters that we considered are pH of waste water, initial concentration of waste water, contact time and adsorbent dosage. Modification was conducted by using acetic acid to increase the porosity and improve the quality of treated water.

We are graduates of chemical and process engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. As bachelor undergraduates, we did the research about highly toxic lead removal from wastewater. We were guided by Prof. Jagath Premachandra, Senior Lecturer, University of Moratuwa.
