Synopsis

Increasing necessity to cement in Yemen is a result of urban development which made investors build cement plants without strict control and without looking in depth for possible environmental damage caused. However, in Yemen, in the absence of law and monitoring, this might be a reason for the appearance of lung cancer cases, pulmonary disease and other diseases among cement workers and the surrounding population in Amran city. Since the level of awareness regarding occupational hazards among factory workers is limited, many workers with undetected respiratory diseases may exist. Therefore this is the first study from Yemen aimed to find out the association between exposure to cement dust pollution and cytological changes, and its association with inflammatory changes-using cytology.
