Synopsis

In this collection of essays emanating from the Southern Ute Indian Community Safety Survey, differences in attitudes and behaviors between Native American Indians and non-Indians are examined. Significant differences in attitudes and behaviors were found between the two ethnic and cultural groups. Culture, it was further found, plays a significant role in these differences. I thank Paul Jesilow, Gilbert Geis, Joan Petersilia, Kitty Calavita, and Valerie Jenness for excellent mentoring while a graduate student at the University of California, Irvine School of Social Ecology, Department of Criminology, Law and Society. Biographie de l'auteur

Julie C. Abril received her PhD in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California in 2005. She has published widely in the areas of crime and violence, victimization, prisoner issues, identity, and on concerns of women and Native American Indians. She is the author of nine books on Native American Indians and crime.
