Synopsis

In 1992, at Cheiron Studios in Stockholm, I wrote the ending of "The Sign." My name never appeared on the record.

This book is my account of that missing credit — part memoir, part evidentiary brief, part open letter to the man who let it happen.

I assert that I wrote the final lyrical and melodic turn of "The Sign," the Ace of Base single that became one of the best-selling songs of the 1990s — the turn to "mind" and the closing lines, written with the melody attached. I assert that Jonas Berggren heard it, used it, and let the song go to registration without my name on it.

This is not a general grievance about A&R work, and it is not a claim on Jonas's authorship of the song itself — the title, the hook, the core idea were his. It's a narrower claim: that the finished record also carries words and melody I wrote, and that the official credit should have said so.

I lay out the witnesses who were in the room, the timeline from a Copenhagen hotel lobby to the Cheiron vocal booth, and the documentary trail — including a 1997 label fax and a 1992 trade press clipping — that kept this question alive for three decades. I'm not asking anyone to take my word for it. I'm asking for the records, the testimony, and the correction that should have existed from the beginning.
