Articles liés à Migration and Memory: Representations of Migration...
Synopsis
The contributions in this anthology explore the linkage between two very prominently debated topics: migration on the one hand and memory on the other. It addresses the question of how (im)migration histories as well as(im)migrants themselves and their histories are collectively remembered and represented in different European countries. The authors challenge the marginalization of the rich European (im)migration history and therewith tackle issues that are immanent to today's immigration societies.

Book is clean and bright with unmarked text, free of stamps, firmly bound. Issued without a dust jacket. -- This volume provides a comprehensive analysis of the socio-political impact of migration on public memory across Europe, considering how migration has been represented in different cultural and historical contexts. It examines the relationship between migration and collective memory, exploring how various European countries have portrayed migration in media, public spaces, and educational curricula. Key topics include the role of migration in shaping national and transnational histories, the integration of migration narratives into museums and heritage sites, and the influence of post-colonialism, labour migration, and asylum-seeking on European identity. The book covers the representation of migrants in public discourse, art, and media, with case studies focusing on the UK, France, Austria, and Sweden. These case studies illustrate how migration histories have been commemorated and how migrant experiences are integrated or excluded from national memory. Throughout the chapters, the book explores how migration has influenced cultural identity, national memory, and immigration policies in different European contexts, providing a broad view of how migration continues to shape Europe today.
