Carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) are fundamental elements governing plant productivity, nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, and ecosystem functioning. Climate change and associated environmental changes can substantially alter the storage, transformation, and cycling of these elements, with important consequences for ecosystem structure, function, and resilience. This Special Issue brought together recent advances in understanding the mechanisms regulating C, N, and P storage, cycling, coupling, and stoichiometry in plant and forest ecosystems under changing environmental conditions. Contributions addressed a range of topics, including C, N, and P pools and distributions; plant and soil nutrient dynamics; greenhouse gas fluxes; plant-soil-microbe interactions; carbon sequestration; nutrient limitation and use efficiency; soil nutrient transformations; and relationships between elemental stoichiometry and environmental factors. The studies published in this Special Issue provide new insights into the interactions and feedbacks among C, N, and P cycles and demonstrate the importance of integrating plant, soil, microbial, and environmental processes to better understand ecosystem responses to climate change. Collectively, these contributions advance our understanding of biogeochemical coupling and provide a scientific basis for predicting ecosystem functioning, carbon sequestration, and resilience under future climate change.
