Ruth Rendell, auch unter dem Pseudonym Barbara Vine erfolgreich und als „Koenigin der Kriminalliteratur“ gefeiert, ist mit ihren zahlreichen Romanen eine der ganz grossen englischen Autorinnen. Dreimal schon erhielt sie den Edgar-Allan-Poe-Preis und zweimal den „Golden Dagger Award“. 1997 wurde sie mit dem „Grand Masters Award“ der Crime Writers Association of America, dem renommiertesten Krimipreis ueberhaupt, ausgezeichnet und darueber hinaus von Koenigin Elizabeth II. in den Adelsstand erhoben.
Ruth Rendell, die am 19. Februar 2000 ihren siebzigsten Geburtstag feierte, lebt in London.

Ruth Rendell has been awarded three Edgars for best novel by the Mystery Writers of America, as well as the Grand Master Award. In England, the Crime Writers Association has honored her with two Gold Dagger awards for best novel, a Silver Dagger, and a Diamond Dagger for outstanding contribution to the genre. She lives in London.
