Synopsis

This volume indudes a selection of papers being presented at the workshop 'Hierarchy and Balance: The Role of Monumentality in European and Indian Landscapes', held between the 17th and the 18th of March 2018 in Kohima, India. The workshop was proceeded by a PhD workshop titled 'Building Big? Global Scales of Monumentality – An Ethno-archaeological Perspective', which was organized in close cooperation between Kiel University, Nagaland University and the Nordic Graduate School – Dialogues with the Past. Both events aimed to bring together the perspectives of European and Indian archaeologists on the broad fields of megalithic construction and monumentality.
