Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. The painter Jochen Plogsties, who studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, was a master student of Neo Rauch, and he was awarded the Leipziger Volkszeitung art prize in 2011. This volume provides an overview of his paintings of the past years and introduces his most recent and previously unpublished works of art. Jochen Plogsties (* 1974) paints reproductions of existing reproductions of wellknown works of art. He works from a variety of materials including catalogue illustrations of arthistorical masterpieces, record covers and magazine covers, as well as key works of contemporary photography. His "retranslations" of reproductions of works of art into new paintings defamiliarise the wellknown original and confound entrenched modes of looking at art. He plays with changes of size and scale and explodes the precision of the original work of art with his coarsening painting style. He simultaneously calls into question a reality shaped by various media that causes us to believe that we have already seen everything that is worth seeing.
