Synopsis
Die Architektur des Expressionismus ist der Aufbruch der Baukunst in die goldenen Zwanziger, auch in der Metropolenregion Rhein|Ruhr. Erstmals dokumentiert der Band alle hier noch existierenden Bauten in einer Gesamtübersicht und zeigt ein vollkommen neues Bild der bekannten Region eine faszinierende Wiederentdeckung. Die Begeisterung für die expressionistische Metropolis, mit ihrer von Komplexität, Vertikalität und Theatralik geprägten Architektur, erfasste in den zwanziger Jahren auch die Stadtlandschaft Rhein|Ruhr. Noch heute zeugen existierende expressionistische Fragmente nicht nur des industriellen Erbes von einem unbedingten Formwillen und einem gekonnten Umgang mit Farbe, Material und Licht. Der Band dokumentiert in zeitgenössischen Fotografien und Planzeichnungen 155 Bauten u. a. in Bochum, Bottrop, Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Köln, Münster und Oberhausen. Ein detaillierter Index und übersichtliche Karten vervollständigen das Nachschlagewerk.
