This special issue of "Invasion and Metastasis" provides up-to-date information on many of the key research topics in the fields of tumour progression and analysis of the malignant phenotype. Areas where major efforts are being made in cancer research that are covered in this book include: genetic alterations and biological changes in multistage carcinogenesis; changes in cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesion behaviour; perturbations in the balance of proteolytic activities; activation and regulation of hormones, growth and angiogenic factors; and tumour stroma and organ specificity of metastasis-competent cells.
