On s'est rencontrés dans une fête à Paris. Pierre était photographe, Gilles était peintre ; nous nous aimions et sommes devenus inséparables. On s'apportait mutuellement, on était différents et complémentaires. On s'entendait tellement bien que petit à petit nos deux travaux se sont mélangés pour n'en faire qu'un.

Depuis 1976, Pierre et Gilles sont devenus une signature à part entière. Leur œuvre, qui se situe à mi-chemin entre peinture et photographie, offre une réalité retouchée selon leur sensibilité et leurs fantasmes, où un pur style kitsch côtoie les thèmes du sexe et de la religion. Décors féeriques, lumières artificielles et couleurs saturées mettent en valeur les poses provocatrices, les corps lisses et les visages idéalisés de leurs modèles.
