Die Beiträge des Tagungsbandes beschäftigen sich mit Demokratiekonzeptionen jenseits des Nationalstaates. Aus verfassungsrechtlicher Perspektive sind vor allem die internationalen Demokratiemodelle von besonderem Interesse. Das so genannte Demokratiedefizit supranationaler und internationaler Organisationen, wie z. B. EU oder WTO ist offensichtlich und stellt eine schwierige Aufgabe dar.
Im zweiten Teil des Sammelbandes werden Grenzen und Herausforderungen von Demokratien diskutiert. Die Aufsätze konzentrieren sich auf Aspekte traditioneller Demokratien wie z. B. Indien sowie auf Instrumente zur Effektivitätssteigerung neuer demokratischer Systeme durch Wahlbeobachtung. Harald Eberhard is a lecturer and senior research assistant at the Department for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna Law School. Konrad Lachmayer is a lecturer and senior research assistant at the Department for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna Law School. Gregor Ribarov works as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Gerhard Thallinger is a former research and teaching assistant at the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and works in the Directorate of Legal Service of the Austrian Federal Chancellery.
