Irmgard Müsch estudió historia del arte, historia y arqueología clásica en Maguncia y Berlín. Su tesis doctoral en 1999 examinó la Kupfer-Bibel de Johann Jakob Scheuchzer, un comentario científico profusamente ilustrado de principios del siglo XVIII sobre la Biblia. Ha publicado acerca del arte de los siglos XVIII y XX, las ilustraciones científicas y las piezas de los gabinetes de curiosidades.
Jes Rust completó sus estudios en geología, paleontología y zoología en Gotinga y Kiel. Su tesis trató de la evolución de los caracoles fósiles que vivieron en las aguas dulces y salobres de la Grecia prehistórica. Su asistencia en el Instituto de Zoología de Gotinga entre 1993 y 1999 fue seguida de su nombramiento en 2001 de profesor de paleontología de los invertebrados y filogenia de los insectos en la Universidad de Bonn.
