Depuis ses premières photographies fin 1970, Bettina Rheims n’a cessé de bouleverser les codes. De sa série sur les strip-teaseuses de Pigalle (1980) au cycle sur la vie de Jésus dans I.N.R.I (1998), ou d’une publicité pour Chanel à son travail sur le genre dans Gender Studies (2011), son œuvre bouscule l’iconographie traditionnelle et repousse sans cesse les limites de deux grandes préoccupations de l’artiste: la beauté et l’imperfection.
Cette rétrospective de l’œuvre de Rheims retrace en plus de 300 photos 35 années d’une carrière de photographe provocante et rebelle. Choisie et composée par Bettina Rheims elle-même, la sélection réunit des séries iconiques, comme Chambre close, Héroïnes et Rose, c’est Paris. Alternant entre photos de mode et séries artistiques, cette rétrospective frappe, page après page, par la force de chaque image tout autant que par la diversité des sujets et de l’esthétique de Rheims. Patrick Remy es autor de varias publicaciones y ha firmado dos series de libros: Fashion Images de Mode y Strip/Paradise/Desire/Sensation (Steidl). Además, ha publicado monografías de fotógrafos y ha organizado varias exposiciones de fotografía de moda, concretamente en Miami, Tokio y Melbourne. Remy vive y trabaja en París.
