La demande de billettes rondes en acier grand format a augmenté au cours des dernières décennies. En tant que nouvelle méthode de coulée, le processus de coulée semi-continue (SCC), qui tente de combiner les mérites de la coulée en lingot et des techniques de coulée continue, devient une technique compétitive dans les aciéries modernes pour produire de grands ronds. Cependant, la compréhension du processus concernant la formation de la structure solidifiée, la macrogrégation, la porosité, etc. n'est pas très claire. L'objectif de ce travail est d'utiliser un modèle de solidification triphasé en colonnes pour simuler le processus de solidification du SCC, évaluer les problèmes susmentionnés et fournir des suggestions instructives à l'industrie. Ce modèle numérique a été développé à l'origine par Wu et Ludwig [Metall. Mater. Trans A, 2006, p.1613]. Afin de modéliser le processus SCC, le modèle numérique a été étendu. Les vérifications du modèle étendu ont été effectuées dans plusieurs cas à différentes échelles, de la référence de laboratoire au brin SCC pratique.
