Synopsis

This book offers a new approach to control design for DC converter-based power distribution systems, which are an attractive alternative to AC power distribution due to flexible power sharing and nearly instantaneous reconfiguration; a decrease of overall system cost and weight; and an increase of reliability. The Synergetic Control Theory offers solutions to such challenges of control design as nonlinearity, multi-connectivity, and high-dimensionality of these systems. This control design uses an analytical procedure to shift the focus of the designer from analysis of the closed loop system behavior to synthesis of the specified behavior of the system by constructing invariant-manifolds. Contraction of the state space allows to evaluate stability conditions of the high order systems. The resulting control laws ensure global or semi-global stability of the system and improve transient response and performance of the system. This work illustrates application of Synergetic Control Theory for DC autonomous power distribution systems, which, as a result, fully utilize capacity for flexible power sharing and nearly instantaneous reconfiguration.
