Performance management gained popularity in the 1980s as governments around the world were reforming public sector institutions for efficiency and effectiveness.Performance management systems was introduced in Botswana's public sector in 1999 for the same reasons.This book critically evaluates the effetctiveness of the key performance indicator based performance management system in the context of a developing country. The department of Administration of Justice was used as a single case study based on quantitative and qualitative data collected from the department.The book provides an insight into the successes andchallenges of the adoption and application of a performance management system from developed countries in the context of a developing country.The book should benefit practitioners in the public service as well as professionals, academics and students interested in public sector reforms and the application of performance management system in the context of a developing country such as Botswana.
