Synopsis

The aim of this study is the production of glass-fibers reinforced thermoplastic composite disc, determination of mechanical properties and determination of thermal stress analysis by analytically. In this experimentally study, first of all a glass-fibers reinforced thermoplastic composite disc is produced. The composite disc is reinforced by glass-fibers, curvilinearly. Second, the mechanical properties of the composite disc are obtained by strain-gauges and Instron test machine. The modulus of elasticity in the tangential direction is measured by fitting a solid disc to the composite disc exactly by using strain-gauges. However other material properties are found approximately. Finally, thermal stresses are determined under constant, linear and parabolic temperatures by using an analytic method. It is found that, the magnitude of tangential stress component is higher than that of radial stress component. And also, tangential stress component is found to be compressive and tensile around the inner and outer surfaces, respectively.
