Christianity is recent in black Africa. With the exception of the Coptic and orthodox churches in Egypt and Ethiopia, few of the African churches are well over 100 years old. The original method of evangelisation was implantation of the western culture and form of Christianity in most part of our continent. Hence theology, liturgy, spirituality and church law were and still are to a great extent western in character. This state of affairs was enhanced by the general contempt for African traditional Religions and cultures among the early missionaries. The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to the development of African Theology, its impact and influence on African people and their belief systems. It will help readers to participate actively in formulating, analysing and articulating theology in the African context. It examines the origin, methodology and content of African Theologies. The meaning of the human person from an African point of view and from a theological perspective; human existence seen from the signs of the times; the human person and other theologies of human existence in the light of the paschal mystery.
