Machine Translation(MT) is a task of automatic translation a text from one natural language to another. The challenges in developing Hindi to Punjabi MTS lie with major problems mainly related to the non-availability of lexical resources, spelling variations, WSD, transliteration, NER and collocations. This book addresses the problems in the various stages of the development of a complete Hindi to Punjabi MTS and discusses potential solutions. Chapter 1 of the book introduces general concept of MT, various approaches to MT systems and key activities involved in MT. Chapter 2 discusses the existing work in the field of MT in India and outside India. Chapter 3 explains and compares Hindi and Punjabi languages with respect to orthography, grammar, and MT. Chapter 4 and 5 provide the design and implementation details of various activities involved in the MTS. Chapter 6 describes the post processing stage of the system. Chapter 7 provides the evaluation of the system and its results. Chapter 8 provides a summary of the work undertaken, contributions of this research work, limitations, and some directions in which this work could be extended in the future.

Dr. Vishal Goyal and Dr. Gurpreet Singh Lehal at Department of Computer Science,Punjabi University, Patiala, India has an experience of about 10 years and 20 years respectively of software development, teaching and research. Both the authors are very active researchers in field of Natural Language Processing.
