Synopsis

This book compiles experiments on polarization of light. The necessary theories, e.g. wave theory in chapter 1, electromagnetic theory in chapter 3, and quantum theory in chapter 5 are discussed at length. The second chapter determines the optical activity of transparent cellophane film using ordinary white light. The fourth chapter verifies Fresnel's equations using sodium source. In the sixth chapter laws of reflection and refraction using a rectangular glass slab and a laser source are verified along with the variation of reflectance and transmittance of laser beam with angle of incidence.

Biographie de l'auteur

Dr. Amitava Ghorai is Associate Professor of Physics at Chandernagore Government College. His doctoral work on the study of point defects in solids and thin films at IACS, Kol-32 awarded him Ph.D. degree from Jadavpur University in 1989. Recently point defects are considered using model potentials and exchange and correlations.
