Synopsis

Since the heart disease is a leading cause of death world-wide currently, researchers keep trying to explore and develop innovative solutions to reduce the threat. Both pre-operative planning and intra-operative navigation are becoming routine practice in many surgeries. However to date, practical integrated solutions for heart in routine clinical practice are still missing; insufficient technology to accurately know the shape of the heart is one of them. The segmentation of an object (heart) provides adequate information about its shape and size. There are a number of algorithms in the field of segmentation and simultaneously, there is also an increased rate of inconsistency in discriminating objects in cardiac MR images due to increasing disease varieties; therefore, it has been a challenging topic of research since last two decades.
