Synopsis

Twenty first century demands present unprecedented challenges upon education. The connection between education and practice and the issue of preparedness of graduates for future practice are central to this. This study is about student practical experience and its relevance to formal architecture education. It seeks to better understand student learning experiences in practice along with the involvement of practices with a view towards the development of a work-integrated learning framework for architecture. An interpretative and qualitative research approach and methodology utilising semi-structured questionnaires and individual in-depth interviews were conducted for data collection. Student experiences in diverse practice environments involving Australian and Malaysian contexts were documented and analysed. Three thematic propositions relating to students personal development, professional development and cultural perspectives were identified and determined to be of significant learning value.

Biographie de l'auteur

Susan is a qualified architect and an academic with more than twelve years’ experience. Her research interests are in the areas of architecture education, intercultural teaching and learning and inclusive design for diversity.
