Synopsis

With internet users increasing and the rapid development of network expertise, e-commerce is perceived as one of the most important applications of the computer and communication technologies. E-commerce is an emerging concept that describes the process of buying, selling or exchanging products, services and information via computer networks including the internet. This work focuses on developing an e-commerce website for a supermarket. In order to facilitate online payment, scratch cards of different amount are provided. Instant SMS alerts are also sent to the users for every successful placed order. The system (e-commerce web application) is designed using Unified Modeling Language (UML), implemented using a 3-tier architecture – a backend database(MS-SQL Server 2000), a middle tier of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), ASP.NET 3.5, C# 3.0 and a web-browser as the front end client.
