A greater awareness has been generated among the policy makers after the Cairo conference on Population and Development to address the health needs of women covering all stages of life and the current Reproductive and Child Health programme of India attempts to provide services to women at all stages with this view. However, certain sections of the population such as women approaching menopause have still not received the required attention. Further, with the existing demographic changes, number of women at the menopausal stage has been on the rise in India. Therefore, the study of menopause assumes high importance in the context of the current demographic scenario of India. Nevertheless, most of the researches on the issue of menopause are conducted in the developed countries and very little information is available on developing countries, particularly on the Indian context. This book therefore addresses the various issues that surround menopause in India. This work mainly addresses the variations in levels of menopause among women in India and its States, the non-biological correlates of menopausal age and also highlights the emerging issues of menopause in the Indian contex
