Synopsis

Teacher’s professional development initiative has a short history in Ethiopia dating back to 2003.By and large the initiative is a by product of the special focus given to teacher education in the new education and training policy of Ethiopia( ETP) in general and the Teacher Education System Overhaul (TESO) that was initiated in 2003 to implement the policy in particular. HDP is one year duration on-the –job training of teacher educators all over the country. Its focus is on enhancing teacher’s professionalism and thereby improve student learning. Specifically the training gives due attention to training teacher educators in the areas of reflective practice, active learning, continuous assessment and action research. As part of the training there is also a school placement of the trainees aimed at practical experiencing of schools for which they train teachers.

Biographie de l'auteur

The author is an Assistant Professor of History (MA in History & MSC in C&I) in the Graduate School of Education of Addis Ababa University. He published Women & Warfare in Ethiopia (OSSEREA:2000) and The Role and Status of Women in Polygamous Households( Lambert Publishers:2011)
