Education is the most important and dominant sector in any country. The performance of any country can be assessed by the literacy rate of that country. The countries which have highest number of educated people, are the most advanced states in the world. Pakistan was created in the name of Islam under the outstanding leadership of Quaid-i-Azam. The Quran place great emphasis on education. Pakistan is one of the least literate countries in Asia. The country population of 173.5 million have only 57.0% literacy rate, which means that more than 50 million Pakistani are not literate. Non literate population of Pakistan constitutes 6.2% of that of the world. Pakistan is the fourth largest contributor to world non literate population. Literacy is the heart and life blood of development. It also serves as engine of growth and back bone of economy.So literacy as part of basic education is seen as a key factor in a country social and economic development.
