Republic of India is the largest producer and exporter of spices in the world and so called, the 'spice bowl' of the world. According to Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), about 63 spices are being grown in India. The estimated world trade in spices is 800,000 tonnes valued at US$ 2,000 million out of which India has a significant share of 47 per cent in quantity and 40 per cent in value. India has been the principal source of supply of the major spices in the global market. Nowadays, this is being threatened by stiff competition from other producing countries with higher productivity level and surplus for exports. The book will aid the students, researchers and policy makers to understand the dynamics of production and export performance of major Indian spices.

Research Fellow (Agricultural Economics) in the Economics and Management Section, National Dairy Research Institute, SRS, Bangalore, India. He is specialized in Agricultural Production Economics, International Trade, Consumer Economics and Development Policy Analysis. He has published several research articles/papers in reputed Journals.
