This book describes characterization of the intestinal absorption and bioavailability of γ-tocotrienol using in vitro, in vivo and in situ models..... investigates the carrier-mediated transport of γ-tocotrienol by NPC1L1 and compares its oral bioavailability, oral absorption and elimination kinetics to that of α-tocopherol.... characterizes γ-tocotrienol and α-tocopherol in vitro interaction kinetics with NPC1L1 transporter responsiple for both compounds non-linear kinetics....tests solid lipid nanoparticles as a model formulation to enhance the permeability of γ-tocotrienol and investigates the mechanism of intestinal uptake of γ-tocotrienol packaged in this delivery ssytem..... conducts preclinical pharmacokinetic tests required to predict the oral absorption kinetics of UK-343,664 (a substrate for P-gp and CYP3A4) in humans....and builds an in silico PBPK simulation model to investigate and explain the non-linear absorption kinetics of UK-343,664 obsrved in humans using the ACAT model (Gastroplus™, Simulation Plus Inc., Lancaster, CA), and compare the simulation results with the in vivo results.
Dr. Bilal Abuasal earned his PhD in Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) in the Fall of 2011. Dr. Abuasal is currently working on PK/PD and PBPK modeling of drug-drug interactions in his postdoctoral training.
