In these environmental conscious days, the challenges for chemists and others is to develop new products, processes, procedures and services that achieve the societal, economic and environmental benefits. It requires a new approach which sets out to reduce the materials and energy intensities of chemical processes and products, minimize or eliminates the dispersion of harmful chemicals in the environment, maximize the use of renewable sources and the durability and recyclability of products in a way which increases industrial competitiveness. Keeping in view the immense importance of environmental technique both in industry and academia and continuation of the ongoing work being carried out by our research group for the past few years for developing clean, efficient, economical and environmental-friendly procedures, the present work has been carried out with the aim to explore newer environment friendly procedures using various silica supported reagents (acids and bases) in organic synthesis. In addition, efforts have also been made to use non-toxic, inexpensive and easily available reagents for the synthesis of synthetically important and potentially bioactive compounds.
