Language is a powerful means, able to persuade people and make them cooperative. The authors of this volume, which emerged from the Jean Monnet Project "Speeches on Europe" that will run from 2019 to 2021, examine memorable speeches by European leaders who spoke in favor of or against European integration and thus contributed to the emergence of a pro- or anti-European discourse in their countries in order to understand when and whether a Euroskeptic or Eurocritical consciousness began to grow in Europe.
