Tra il 1997 e il 2008, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, in collaborazione con Dennis Freedman, che per più di vent'anni è stato direttore creativo di W magazine, ha realizzato undici servizi fotografici. DiCorcia e Freedman hanno girato il mondo, visitando luoghi come L'Avana, Parigi, Bangkok, San Pietroburgo, Los Angeles e New York. Tra le location, Lautner House a Los Angeles, il Teatro Mariinsky a San Pietroburgo, Windows on the World, il bar panoramico di quello che era il World Trade Center, e un losco "club echangiste" (locale per scambisti) parigino. Il cast comprende top-model del calibro di Nadja Auermann, Guinevere, Kristen McMenamy, Karen Elson, Shalom Harlow e Hannelore Knuts, attrici come Isabelle Huppert e lo stilista Marc Jacobs, oltre ad alcune persone selezionate per strada nelle città visitate.
