This work includes text by Kassandra Nakas, and Britta Schmitz. With The Atlas Group, the Lebanese artist Walid Raad explores the contemporary history of his homeland, scarred by civil war. From 1989 to 2004, Raad compiled an archive of used finds from actual everyday life, of fictive picture documentations that say little without an explanatory context. This relies on the fact that the arranged fiction makes a much truer approach to reality possible. Walid Raad was born in Lebanon in 1967 and is based in New York and Beirut. In the work presented in this book he asks if and when experiences of a guerilla war can ever be documented. It includes English and German text.
