For three years in hot weather and cold, Lydia Panas invited families to stand before her lens. She was curious to see what would happen. In these pictures of family relationships, it is the details that matter most. Panas found that with the camera, she was free to watch and capture those unclear feelings that exist between people. These family portraits draw a fascinating connection between the relationship between models, photographer and the camera. Each beautiful portrait is enriched with the shared history between family and friends.

"For three years in hot weather and cold, Lydia Panas invited families to stand before her lens. She was curious to see what would happen. These groups stood graciously before her as the series unfolded. Lydia Panas has exhibited widely throughout the United States, and is gaining attention in Europe and Asia. Her work is included in numerous collections including those of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston; Brooklyn Museum; and the Center for Photography Woodstock" (Publisher's blurb). "Lydia Panas' ability to capture and convey the complexity of human relationships has made her a rising star in contemporary portraiture" (Photo District News). "The work is intensely beautiful" (Jorg M. Colberg). Reminiscent of the work of Sally Mann on the one hand and Jock Sturges on the other, the imagery is ultimately Lydia Panas' own. They are presented by Kehrer in exquisite reproductions that capture the sublime atmosphere, not just the nuances, of Panas' images. An absolute "must-have" title for Lydia Panas collectors. This title is a contemporary photography classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: This is an Import title and was not commercially distributed in the United States. Copies available online have serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with 50 full-page color plates. One of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A fine copy. From the publisher: "For three years in hot weather and cold, Lydia Panas invited families to stand before her lens. She was curious to see what would happen. These groups stood graciously before her as the series unfolded. Nothing was deliberate or planned. The images do not represent individuals so much as they explore the questions of how we see ourselves and what we feel. In these pictures of family relationships, it is the details that matter most. Although they portray engaging people, verdant landscapes and beautiful light, it is the small things in the images that provide us with clues to understand the subtle nature of the work. After twenty years of working exclusively in black and white photography, mostly with her own children, Lydia began inviting other people with whom she was less intimate, to her farm in Pennsylvania, to see what difference this might bring to her work. Some of the models are family, some are friends, some are people she knew less intimately. She asked them to bring along their own family members or close friends, people with whom they shared a history. It was fascinating to see how they took certain positions in relation to one another, to the photographer and to the camera. Panas found that with the camera, she was free to watch and capture a sense of the connections between people, those unclear feelings that exist between us. Those moments we feel, yet are so difficult to describe in our connections with others.". Signed by Author(s). N° de réf. du vendeur 60
