In this publication, Dana Widawski reveals a fascinating panorama of ceramic work. With subtle humour and provocative depth, she transcends the boundaries between art and craft in her tiled tableaux and assemblages. In surprising, playful, yet precise ways, she dares to expose both our present-day kitsch and also that found in art itself, right up to its tipping point.
"Dana Widawski's figures … provoke a simultaneous attraction and disgust: too delicate, too cute, too pretty, too frivolous, too direct—all industrial white sugar. Something happens, you become gripped, emotionally, personally. You are made aware of your own feelings and associations" (Esther Niebel).
Text in English and German.

Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. In this retrospective, Dana Widawski unveils a captivating panorama of a decade of her ceramic practice. With delicate humour and incisive depth, she blurs the boundaries between art and craft in her assemblages and tile panels. At the very edge of the tipping point, she exposes both the kitsch of our contemporary world and the kitsch embedded within art itself surprising, playful, and exquisitely precise.Dana Widawski finds motifs and forms in everyday life, which she then assembles into a new work in a collage-like manner. In doing so, she deliberately creates breaks, resulting in tension. The changes shemakes to her found objects are masterfully concealed; her interventions are indistinguishable from the original pieces.'Dana Widawskis figuresprovoke a simultaneous attraction and disgust: too delicate, too cute, too pretty, too frivolous, too direct all industrial white sugar. Buch. Etat : Neu.
