Synopsis

This extensive publication provides a complete overview of Georg Herold's work from the 80s through to his most recent video pieces. It becomes apparent that although absurdity and paradox might start to flounder somewhat in textbound theory, they are neverthless revealed as both dextrous and inventive entities when it comes to George Herold's graphic cast of mind. Contributions from Stephan Berg, Nicole Fritz, Rudi Fuchs, Friedrich Heubach, Carmela Thiele and Matthias Winzen serve to illuminate the works from the compatriot's point of view and concern themselves with the function of wit and amazement as the midwives to clear thinking. All of this is contextualized from an art historical perspective, both in relation to his generation of artists and in strict demarcation to Joseph Beuys.
