In September 2010 the 21st Electronic Speech Signal Processing conference (ESSV 2010) brings together those interested in speech technology research and its applications. After many years the event is once again held in Berlin, at Beuth University of Applied Sciences. Although traditionally a German event, this year’s conference includes contributions from as far away as Japan and Argentina. The conference again focuses on speech signal processing at large, with special emphasis on speech dialog, L2 education and prosody modeling. The highlight of this year is a session commemorating the 80th birthday of one of the founding fathers and luminaries in the field of speech research, Hiroya Fujisaki.
