Seit 1996 hat Luzia Simons (geb. 1953 in Brasilien, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin) mit ihrer Stockage- Serie unter Verwendung einer ungewöhnlichen, neuen Bildtechnik zahlreiche hinreißende Arbei- ten geschaffen. Auf einem hochauflösenden Spezial-Scanner arrangiert sie die Blüten und Blätter verschiedenster Tulpenarten und lässt so Scanogramme von intensiver farblicher Brillanz und ungeheurer Schärfe entstehen. Die Scan-Daten werden anschließend wie bei digitaler Fotografie belichtet, auf oftmals raumfüllende Bildträger vergrößert und hinter Plexiglas montiert. Simons inszeniert die Tulpen auch als eine Art Reverenz an barocke holländische oder flämische Blumen- stillleben. Das lässt mitunter an die Tulpomanie denken, den zuletzt ruinösen Handel mit Tulpen und ihren Zwiebeln im Holland des 17. Jahrhunderts denken. Mit Beiträgen von Matthias Harder und Hans-Olaf Henkel.

Since 1996, Luzia Simons (b. 1953, Brazil; lives and works in Berlin), employing a novel and extraordinary imaging technique, has created a large number of enchanting works that make up her series Stockage. Arranging the flowers and leaves of a wide variety of tulip species on a specialized high-resolution scanner, she produces scanograms of intensely brilliant colors and tremendous acuity. As in digital photography, the data produced by the scanner are then output onto often very large physical media and mounted behind plexiglass. Simons also stages the tulips as a sort of homage to Baroque Dutch or Flemish still lifes with flowers, sometimes suggesting the "tulipomania" in seventeenth-century Holland, the ultimately ruinous trade with tulips and their bulbs.
