Synopsis
For fifty years, this tranquil city was the centre of world attention – from 1949 to 1999, Bonn was the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. The city still draws on this legacy. Nevertheless, Bonn should not be reduced to an ‘ex-capital’! After all, the city is two thousand years old: founded as a Roman fort, the electors of Cologne resided here in the Middle Ages; Ludwig van Beethoven was a Bonn boy. To compensate for the loss of its capital city status, Bonn was given great museums as well as UN authorities and various corporate headquarters.
